Friday, February 22: We took the bus to airport and shopped for a rental car. Met Bobby and Scott at 1:00 pm. Had dinner with them in San Juan de Cabo. Cactus car rental told us $500/wk, but they got us into a time share sales pitch at Pueblo Bonita Sunset for a $250 reduction in rental car price. Attended that on Saturday February 23: Attended Pueblo Bonita sales pitch in the morning. Took a taxi to the location out of town. We hey paid d for the taxi. Sales pitch was not too big pressure. Sales lady did a good job of interpreting what we liked and tailored a package that was enticing. We did not bite. We had found a Chinese restaurant a few days earlier. Had lunch there. We ate there a total of three times
Sunday, February 24: Moved to San Anthony at the entrance to Pedregal on Sunday. More walking. Ate Chinese Monday night. It was all meat, then to Tiramisu at Salvatore’s. Rich night of food.
Tuesday February 26: Got violently ill Tuesday morning at 11:30 am after a painful walk to Paraiso Mall. I was trying to walk off the rich food, but it turned out I had the flu. Very sick all day Tuesday. Sally got sick Tuesday night at 11:30 pm. Exact same symptoms. Stayed at San Anthony’s Sunday thru Thursday. Moved to Adrian’s Air B&B for Thursday and Friday night. It was about 6 blocks up from the harbor. Feeling better by then although a walk of about 3 blocks was enough Thursday evening. Friday was better although Sally was still hurting.
Saturday, March 2: Took bus to Cactus Car Rental in the morning and rented Toyota van. Drove north to El Sargento for the night. Camped in campground. Nice beach and spot to sleep.
Sunday, March 3: Drove to Puerto San Carlo, bypassing La Paz except to get groceries at Soriano’s. Winds were really howling at San Carlos. Spent the night parked at the Ecotour resort, right on the beach. We had planned to wait out the wind on Monday, but instead of wasting a day just sitting, changed our minds and drove to Loreto.
Monday, March 4: Drove to Loreto and walked town. Spilt a hamburger at local restaurant and walked the Malecón and downtown historic area. We were both struck by how quiet it is compared to Cabo. Spent night in Escondido harbor. Great showers and laundry.
Tuesday, March 5: Visited local beaches and resorts, then drove back to San Carlo. Bought bag of oranges on the way.
Wednesday, March 6: Took whale cruise. Left at 7:30 in the morning. With Alice from France and an Italian couple. Saw many, many whales. One swam right under our boat. After cruise drove to La Paz. Spent night at Hyatt Place. Once inside hotel could have been anywhere in world. Nothing to identify Mexico.
Thursday, March 7: Ate breakfast in the lobby. Drove into La Paz and walked the Malecón. Beautiful. Drove out to Balandra Beach. Waded around in Bay. Amazing. Drove to next beach. Had lunch in beachside restaurant. Napped. Talked with Westy owners. Moved van to get better internet. Slept.
Friday, March 8: Drove to La Paz and walked Malecón again. Groceries at Soriano’s. Drove to Todas Santos. Checked out area north of town. Shopped for Lapaz stone in jewelry shops. Too expensive. Checked out beaches on way to Cabo San Lucas. Drove bypass to San Juan de Cabo and out to east cape beach for the night. Beautiful location.
Saturday, March 9: Explored the east cape roads and beaches. Returned rental van about 10:30. Caught bus to Cabo after ride to airport. Walked to Chinese lunch. Sally’s neck very stiff. Spent an hour and a half at lunch waiting for AirB&B to open up at 3:00. Walked to find Mexican party flags in shop. Walked to B&B and met Robyn. Rested. Jogged 3 miles in the Pegregal area. Fried egg sandwiches for dinner. Sleep.
Sunday, March 10: walked harbor. Sally worked on interview prep for park job. Walked to beach and swam. Enjoyed watching the spring break kids strut the beach. Back to room. Ran Pedregal again. 2.6 miles. All hills. Showered. Dinner at Salvatore’s. Back to room. Enjoying Narcos series.
Monday, March 11: did morning walk around the harbor. Back to room by 9:30 am . Sally has phone interview for Interpretation job at Mather district in Yosemite at 11:00 am.
