Full Day in Yosemite - Sunday, April 5

We woke early, had a breakfast of omelets and toast, and got moving by 8:50 am, intent on getting to the church in the Valley for Easter Service. We thought it started at 9:30 am, but we arrived at the church at 9:10 am to discover it started at 9:15.  The service lasted until 10:45. Riding our bikes back to camp, we loaded up a pack with lunch, rain gear and warm clothing and biked to Happy Isle intent on hiking up to Vernal and perhaps Nevada Falls. Greyson, Hayden and I left our bikes at the trailhead and bid Sally farewell. The three of us hiked to the top of Vernal Falls, enjoyed the view and then continue on to the base of Nevada Falls.  Here I tried to encourage the kids to continue to the top, but they had seen and walked enough.  We lunched with a big view of the falls, then headed back down. We arrived at Happy Isles, located our bikes in the bike rack where we left them and biked back to camp, taking the long way around toward Mirror Lake.  Anticipating rain later in the evening as seen in the forecast, we decided to ride our bikes down to Yosemite Falls and hike to the base of the lower falls on the wide, asphalt paths.  We had a nice walk and got some good pictures. As we walked the last few strides back to our bikes we felt the first drops of rain.  Luckily, the rain held off until we returned to our campsite.  We took some pictures of deer with Half Dome in the background, then returned to camp for dinner, smore’s over the campfire and the card game Golf in the van as the rain started to fall  (Chuck won).  Sally and I again retired to the tent for the night.
