Okay, this is getting old. It rained 1.2 inches today and now total of over 2” in the past 48 hours. Glad we had the foresight to stay put and let the sky do its thing, but sitting in an apartment all day is tough work.
We had to be out of this apartment by 10:00am. We sent a note to ask delay until 11:00am. They wrote back to say the person that was supposed to come wasn’t coming and we could stay another day. Too late. We had already booked another room two streets over.
We packed up, cleaned the apartment and left about 11:00am. We had written to our new landlords asking if we could get in at noon. It wasn’t raining too hard when we got out so we wandered the streets a little, just to see more of the town. We tried to get in at noon. These owners use a web based check-in system that supposedly lets you access the place from your phone. We couldn’t get it to work and texted them. They said wait, the room was being cleaned. We bought a cute Christmas letter and envelope at a shop and settled into a cafe to write to the grand kids. Two pastries and a Coke later we had it complete. Took it to the post office and had it mailed.
We tried the place again, still no luck. A friend of theirs that lived in the flat next door offered to help. We were standing under our umbrellas in the downpour trying to figure out how to enter. Got into a text conversation with owners. She finally sent a code to the door that allowed us to unlock and enter the building. Found the room up a flight of stairs. It was unlocked and door was open.
We spent the afternoon lazing around the room. When things began opening again at 4:30 we got pizza for tomorrow’s lunch and chicken and potatoes for tonight’s dinner. Something different. No pasta. Although did have broccoli. Boiled eggs for breakfast. Tomorrow is second to last day of this walk. Monte Sacro tomorrow, then St. Peter’s on Thanksgiving.
Writing letter to Rob, Junie, Izzy and Sammy in Monterotondo cafe while sitting out the rain.
